I think i got it from the 3 day expedition to the forest of johor for my butterfly hunting trip. fortunately i got the P. vivax species of parasites that isnt deadly, although it was 7 intense days with a 39-40+ degree fever, chills, headaches and delirium to go along with it. spent a couple of days in the hospital where it was suspected dengue fever at first. good thing the doctors found the parasites and i got the drugs, 3 days later the symptoms died down, lost alot of weight and am slowly gaining back my strength at the moment.
