Papilio peranthus is also a nice butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1787 by Fabricius. With a wingspan of 7.0 – 9.0 cm Papilio peranthus is a small member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The butterfly is black with iridescence green areas. Hind wings have tails.

The forewings are black. Nearby the body there is a big iridescence green area. The pinion is powdered by green scales. In back there is an area of special scales like a pelt. This pelt is typically for the male, because the flavours of this pelt should allure the female.
The underside is two coloured. First part is dark brown and powdered by whitish scales. Second part is light brown and has dark veins.


The hind wings are black and have tails. The margin is ridged. At the margin there is a chain of greenish spots. Nearby the body there is a big iridescence green area.
The underside is dark brown or black and powdered by whitish scales. The margin is light brown. At the margin there is a chain of tree coloured spots (white, orange and black).

The body is dark brown and powdered by green scales.

Papilio peranthus is a butterfly of the Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The distribution is extend from Philippines and Malaysia to Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Celebes).
